Surfing Swami

Jack Hebner, known as the Surfing Swami, is credited as the pioneer of surfing in India. He established India’s first surf club, Mantra Surf Club in 2004, and has since pioneered the sport through innovative initiatives such as launching a comprehensive website for traveling surfers, forming a National Governing Body of Surfing, and collaborating with renowned surf filmmakers and magazines to put India on the global surf map. Swami’s efforts have popularized the sport of surfing and paved the way for surfing culture in India. In 2014, he established the Surfing Swami Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching surfing and environmental awareness to society.

Surfing Swami’s Contribution to the Surfing World of India.

Surfing Swami has immensely contributed towards the growth of surfing in India by establishing the surf club/school model [Mantra Surf Club] back in the early 2000’s, he was also instrumental in establishing of Surfing Federation of India, the National Governing Body of Surfing in India and created other ventures such as Surf Adventure Enterprises, Thundermonkey Surf Gear Pvt Ltd, India Surf Tours Co. which setup the template for surf industry in India. Surfing Swami and his work has been widely recognised in over 300 news publications and magazines around the world from The Washington Post, BBC, Surfer Magazine, India Today, National Geographic, Lonely Planet, Sports Illustrated, Der Spiegel, The Inertia, Redbull Media, Economic Times, The Guardian, The Telegraph UK and many more.

A Letter from the Board

 The Surfing Swami Foundation (SSF) was established in 2014 by Surfing Swami (Jack Hebner) to promote surfing and environmental awareness in India. The foundation is a non-profit and non-sectarian organisation that teaches surfing and its values to everyone, irrespective of their background. The members of Mantra Surf Club, the first surf club in India founded by Surfing Swami, continue to uphold his principles and vision in building a healthy community of passionate and informed surfers.

Through SSF’s initiatives, such as providing scholarships and free surfing lessons to underprivileged children, the foundation promotes inclusivity in the surfing community. The members of Mantra Surf Club regularly organize surfing events, competitions, and beach cleanups, furthering Surfing Swami’s vision of promoting environmental awareness and high thinking.

Surfing Swami’s legacy lives on through SSF and the members of Mantra Surf Club, who remain forever grateful for his efforts in promoting surfing and community living. They continue to carry on his dedication to the future, ensuring that surfing and its values are accessible to all.
