Surf & SUP Development

Athletes need more than waves. The sport needs systems.

The Foundation supports the wider development of surfing and Stand Up Paddling through coaching pathways, training access, junior competition, event platforms, safety, partnerships and public visibility.

What sport development means

Sport development connects access, capability, progression and standards.

Supporting an individual athlete matters. Building the conditions that help more people enter, learn, coach, compete and progress is a different task.

For the Foundation, this means connecting safe instruction, shared equipment, coach development, junior pathways, competition, safety, events and institutional partnerships as one system.

One connected system

Each layer supports the next. Weak links limit participation, progression and long-term development.

01

Safe instruction

Supervised entry points, clear skill progression and responsible water practice.

02

Shared equipment

Boards and safety equipment managed for suitable use, maintenance and repeated access.

03

Coach development

Clear routes for instructors and coaches to strengthen technical, safety and mentoring capability.

04

Safety systems

Risk assessment, supervision, emergency preparation and consistent operating standards.

05

Junior pathways

A visible route from first participation to regular training, competition and athlete development.

06

Competition

Appropriate opportunities to test skills, understand standards and learn from results.

07

Event platforms

Competition and public participation that create visibility, standards and partner engagement.

08

Institutional partnerships

Schools, clubs, federations, government bodies, CSR teams, brands and technical partners working to a defined scope.

Event properties as development tools

Four platforms. Four different roles in the sport system.

Indian Open of Surfing, India Paddle Festival and Grom Search are Surfing Swami Foundation event properties. They create competition, exposure, public engagement and partner participation.

Waves of Change connects this public activity with community participation and responsibility for the coast.

The platform creates a national competitive stage, gives athletes experience under event conditions and brings sporting bodies, partners, media and the public into the same environment.

Current development priority

Grom Search: competition that leads somewhere.

Ongoing

Grom Search is a grassroots junior surfing competition and athlete-development pathway for Coastal Karnataka.

Each edition creates structured competition exposure, identifies promising junior surfers and connects selected athletes to further coaching, equipment and development support.

Development pathway

The competition is the entry point. Athlete development continues after the event.

  1. 01
    Compete

Junior surfers gain structured competition experience in Coastal Karnataka.

  2. 02
    Review

Performance, participation and development needs are reviewed after each edition.

  3. 03
    Shortlist

Athletes who may benefit from further development support are identified through the event process.

  4. 04
    Support

Selected athletes may receive defined coaching, training or equipment support.

  5. 05
    Track

Athlete progression and support delivered are reviewed and documented over time.

Sponsorship structure

Two scopes. Two budgets. Two reporting responsibilities.

Event sponsorship and post-event athlete development are presented separately so partners can see exactly what their support funds.

01

Event delivery

A defined budget and delivery plan for each Grom Search edition, followed by a post-event report.

02

Athlete development

A separate plan for coaching, equipment or development support provided to selected junior athletes.

Build the system with us

A useful partnership begins with a defined role.

Government bodies, CSR teams, schools, clubs, brands and technical partners can work with the Foundation on a clearly scoped Surf or SUP development initiative.

The conversation begins with the problem, the people involved and the work required. It does not begin with a broad promise of impact or a general request for funding.

Potential partner roles
Government bodies

Permissions, facilities, coordination and public pathways.

CSR teams

Scoped programme funding with defined measures and reporting.

Schools

Junior access, participation and education-linked activity.

Clubs

Coaching, local delivery, athlete progression and equipment use.

Brands

Equipment, athlete support, event delivery and visibility.

Technical partners

Safety, training, standards, systems and specialist expertise.
