Our Story

The Surfing Swami Foundation (SSF) is more than just a non-profit organization that teaches surfing and other water sports in India. It is a movement that aims to inspire the next generation of environmentally conscious, socially responsible, and passionate individuals.

Founded by Jack “Swami” Hebner, SSF is committed to providing free equipment, school scholarships, and environmental awareness training to village girls and boys who may not have access to these opportunities otherwise. Through these initiatives, SSF hopes to empower and uplift these young people, giving them the tools and resources to pursue their passions and thrive in their communities.

What We Do

Surf development

At Surfing Swami Foundation, we work to grow surfing and stand-up paddling (SUP) in India by improving access, building local surf infrastructure, and creating awareness. Through events like the Indian Open of Surfing and the India Paddle Festival, we showcase the sport, bring communities together, and inspire more people—especially the youth—to get involved. These efforts help make surfing and SUP more visible, accessible, and supported across the country.

Athlete Development

We support young surfers and stand-up paddlers by giving them the training, equipment, and guidance they need to grow as athletes. Our goal is to help them compete at higher levels—locally, nationally, and internationally. By providing access to coaching, travel support, and exposure through events, we’re building a strong foundation for the next generation of surf/SUP athletes in India.

Ocean Conservation

We believe caring for the ocean is a shared responsibility. Through clean-up drives, awareness programs, and education, we work with local communities to protect our beaches and marine life. By involving young people and surfers in these efforts, we aim to build a strong connection with the ocean and promote simple, lasting actions that make a difference.

Our Approach

We take a simple and practical approach—using surfing/SUP as a way to build stronger communities and cleaner coastlines. By combining surf development with ocean conservation, we create programs that help people grow, stay active, and care for the environment. Our work is focused, community-driven, and built to make a real difference over time.

Our Vision

The Surfing Swami Foundation empowers village children in India by providing free equipment, education, and resources for surfing and water sports. Our mission is to inspire socially responsible and environmentally conscious individuals through education and holistic development. We prioritise sustainability and character development to create lasting positive change.

Our Mission & Approach

SSF’s mission goes beyond just teaching surfing. The organization also helps local children with school supplies, medical needs, and personal instruction in fundamental character development. By prioritizing education and holistic development, SSF hopes to create a generation of individuals who are not only passionate about surfing and water sports but are also socially and environmentally conscious, responsible, and compassionate members of society.

SSF’s impact can be seen in the many young girls and boys who have become enthusiastic about surfing and the positive effects it has had on their lives. The foundation’s workers, all volunteers, are dedicated to making a difference in these children’s lives and communities. Financial contributions and surf gear donations are always in great demand in the villages, and SSF welcomes anyone who would like to help put the stoke in some kid’s life.
